4DVersion is a tool for putting your project methods under version control.
Version Control is a method of tracking the modifications to your project methods over the lifetime of your projects. |

Demo
There are two ways for you to investigate using 4DVersion. And we encourage you to investigate thoroughly before you take the plunge.
Use our demo server
If you download the client for mac or windows, there is a sample demo structure file which has been preconfigured to access our demo server. You can play with how it works from a client side this way. Be aware that our server will be pounded over the next week, so response times may be slow.
Use your own server
Contact us for a temporary serial number, and we will send you a timed serial number to use. You can then download our server (choice OSX, OpenBSD, or Linux) and try it all, locally, on your hardware, network, and code.
However you test, we strongly suggest that you work with a copy of your structure. 4DVersion has been solid in our testing environments (and we've been in beta for a very long time), but version control is a complicated topic and mistakes can be made. |

4DVersion uses one serial number per user on the 4DVersion server. When you create a user on the server, you supply a serial number. 4DVersion server allows 2 connections per user on each server.
The client has no serial number. They are stored on the server only.
However: You can install 4DVersion client on as many structures as you like. And you can use those structures on as many machines as you like. The same serial number works for macintosh or windows clients.
Why 2 connections per user instead of 1?
We decided that if you are a single user shop, you may want to access the server from a macintosh and windows client at the same time. |
